MANILA, Philippines — Vice President and Education Sara Duterte will wear a Bagobo Tagabawa traditional dress for President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s first State of the Nation Address on Monday, July 25.

This is to honor her kababayans from the Bagobo Tagabawa tribe of Davao City, Duterte’s spokesman Atty. Reynold Munsayac said on Friday.

Munsayac said Duterte will only borrow a Bagobo Tagabawa dress from the Deputy Mayor of the Tagabawa tribe of Davao City Bae Sheirelle Anino since making one for her will no longer make it in time for Monday’s Sona.

“Vice President Sara Duterte will depart from the traditional Filipiñana and honor her kababayans from the Bagobo Tagabawa tribe of Davao City,” he said in a statement.

“Unfortunately, an entire ensemble would take over a month to make by tribal artisans, which will not make it on time for Monday’s SONA,” Munsayac added.

“VP Sara Duterte will instead borrow a Bagobo Tagabawa traditional dress from Bae Sheirelle Anino, the Deputy Mayor of the Tagabawa tribe of Davao City,” he continued.

The Office of the Vice President has yet to release photos of Duterte’s dress for the Sona.

Duterte was the running mate of Marcos during the 2022 elections.

Marcos will hold his Sona at the Batasang Pambansa Complex in Quezon City.
