Active COVID-19 cases hit 22,207 – DOH

MANILA, Philippines — Active COVID-19 infections surpassed the 22,000-mark on Thursday at 22,207, after the Department of Health (DOH) said it recorded 2,828 new infections.

This also further raised the country’s total caseload to 3,741,987 nationwide, with 3,659,139 recoveries and 60,641 deaths, based on the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker on its website.

The new infections were also significantly higher than the number of infections recorded on Wednesday which was at 2,074, as well as the average daily cases recorded from July 11 to 17 at 2,091.

Metro Manila also continued to have the highest number of infections per region in the last two weeks with 10,636 cases, as shown in the tracker, followed by Calabarzon with 6,167, and Central Luzon with 2,821.

Quezon City, on the other hand, topped the list of areas with the most reported cases in the last two weeks at 2,188, followed by Cavite at 2,101 and Laguna with 1,508.

Meanwhile, the tracker showed that 23,567 individuals were recorded to have been tested for COVID-19 on Wednesday, July 20 — which will reflect Friday’s tallied numbers.
