New voter registrants now over 2 million – Comelec

MANILA, Philippines — The total number of new voter registrants has reached 2,119,878, just a few days before the registration ends, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Thursday.

The figure was based on data sent by Comelec spokesperson Rex Laudiangco, which showed that out of the two million voters, 1,326,415 were registrants from the 15 to 17 age group.

Meanwhile, Comelec also garnered 680,497 registrations from 18 to 30 years old and 112,966 from the 31 and above age bracket.

The data also showed that the total number of applications processed as of July 20 is now 2,793,285. These included applications for transfer of voter registration, transfer from overseas voting to local voting, and reactivation.

Voter registration is set only until Saturday, July 23, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The registration was reopened in time for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, which are set on December 5, 2022.
