Suspect in shooting of newsman identified

MANILA, Philippines – The Pasig City Police said Saturday it has arrested one of the suspects in the attack on Daily Tribune reporter Fernan Angeles.

Senior Superintendent Jesse Cardona, Pasig chief of police, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer in a telephone interview that the suspect was apprehended in the boundary of Cainta and Pasig in the Floodway area around 5 p.m. Saturday.

Cardona identified him only “alias Faisal,” but Eastern Police District director Chief Superintendent Mario Soriano gave the man’s full name as Faisal Sangcopan Rogong, 42.

Cardona said a picture of the suspect was shown Angeles, who confirmed that he was one of the three men who assaulted him in Barangay Pinagbuhatan.

Cardona declined to reveal the identities of the two other suspects, saying that a search for them was still in progress.

Cardona said that Rogong was detained at the Pasig City Police headquarters.
