Suspect in shooting of newsman arrested

MANILA, Philippines – The Pasig City Police said on Saturday it arrested one of the suspects in the attack on Daily Tribune reporter Fernan Angeles.

Senior Superintendent Jesse Cardona, Pasig chief of police, told the Philippine Daily Inquirer in a telephone interview that the suspect, whom he identified only by his alias “Faisal,” was apprehended in the boundary of Cainta and Pasig in the Floodway area around 5 p.m. Saturday.

He said that a picture of the suspect was shown Angeles, who confirmed that he was one of the three men who assaulted him in Barangay (village) Pinagbuhatan.

Cardona declined to reveal the identities of the two other suspects, saying that a search for them was still in progress.

Cardona said that alias “Faisal” was detained at the Pasig City Police headquarters.
