Suspected communist rebel killed in Negros Oriental
BACOLOD CITY — A suspected communist rebel was killed in an encounter with government troopers in Sitio Taluktok, Barangay Sandayao, Guihulngan City, Negros Oriental on Wednesday, July 20.
The fatality was identified as Pompeo Landesa, 56, who was allegedly involved in various murder cases and violated Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Law on Firearms and Ammunition since 2019, the Army said.
Seized in the area were a KG9 loaded with one magazine, one magnum 357 loaded with three ammunition, a hand grenade, and subversive documents.
The troops were patrolling the area when a concerned citizen tipped them off about the extortion activities of the rebels.
