DOH logs 1,841 new COVID infections; active cases at 20,511

MANILA, Philippines — An additional 1,841 infections of COVID-19 were recorded by the Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday, slightly pushing the number of active cases to 20,511.

With this, the DOH’s COVID-19 tracker showed that the country’s total caseload is now at 3,737,222 nationwide, with 3,656,070 recoveries and 60,641 deaths.

Based on the previous data, the new tallied cases were also lower than the number of infections recorded on Monday which was at 2,285, as well as the average daily cases recorded from July 11 to 17 at 2,091.

Meanwhile, the tracker showed that Metro Manila continues to lead with the highest number of infections per region in the last two weeks with 10,406 cases — double the amount the following region recorded — Calabarzon with 5,880, and Central Luzon with 2,558.

Quezon City, meanwhile, topped the list of areas with the most reported cases in the last two weeks at 2,108, followed by Cavite at 2,036 and Laguna with 1,393.

The tracker also showed that 20,563 individuals were recorded to have been tested for COVID-19 on Monday, July 18.

The DOH had previously warned that daily COVID-19 infections nationwide could reach as high as 17,105 by the end of July, with Metro Manila reaching up to 11,186 average daily cases during the same period.
