MANILA, Philippines — Smuggled cigarettes with an estimated amount over P187,000 were seized in Lanao del Sur, the Bureau of Customs (BOC) reported Tuesday.

The bureau said 650 reams of smuggled Fort brand cigarettes were seized Brgy. Matampay, Balagabagan town in Lanao del Sur during an operation on July 12.

A warrant of seizure and detention was issued against the subject goods in violation of Republic Act No. 10863 or the Customs Modernization and Tariff Act, the bureau said.

The BOC said the seized goods shall be turned over to the Enforcement and Security Service District Office of the Port of Cagayan de Oro for appropriate disposal.

“Sub-port Collector Nasrudin Guro assures the public that the Port shall continue to fulfill its mandate of protecting the country’s borders against the proliferation of illicit goods,” the BOC said in a statement. — Andy Hoo, INQUIRER.net trainee
