Victims of recent Tagaytay landslide receive assistance from DSWD

MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) on Tuesday said that it had provided financial and psycho-social assistance to the victims of the recent Tagaytay landslide incident.

Six construction workers were killed while two others were wounded after a concrete wall collapsed on a construction site in Barangay Kaybagal Central, Tagaytay City on July 11 due to a landslide.

In a statement, the DSWD said that each bereaved family of the six fatalities received P10,000 financial assistance and P25,000 burial assistance, while the two injured workers got P10,000 medical aid each.

The agency added that psycho-social processing for the victims’ families would also be conducted.

According to the agency, the assistance was carried out by the Department’s Field Office IV-A, following the orders of DSWD Secretary Erwin Tulfo.

The DSWD has also “coordinated with the construction firm to determine the assistance they can provide to the affected families.”

As the rainy season began, Tulfo advised the public to exercise caution as landslides are “likely to occur in the process,” the DSWD noted. — Iliana Padigos, INQUIRER.net trainee
