82% of Filipinos believe 2022 elections were accurate, credible — Pulse Asia

MANILA, Philippines — A majority of Filipinos believe that the results of the last May 2022 national and local elections are accurate and credible, a survey released by Pulse Asia on Monday said.

According to the survey conducted from June 24 to 27, 82 percent of the respondents believe that the automated system of elections is trustworthy, with trust towards the electoral process more pronounced in Mindanao as 96 percent of respondents believed in the results.

For Visayas, 85 percent of respondents found the polls accurate and credible; 84 percent of those surveyed in the National Capital Region (NCR) felt the same way; while 73 percent of those from Balance Luzon believed in the results.

Only four percent nationwide doubt the election results.

“At the national level as well as across geographic areas and socio-economic classes, the prevailing sentiment is one of trust that the outcome of the recent national and local elections is accurate and credible – 82% overall, 73% to 96% across areas, and 79% to 82% across classes,” Pulse Asia said in their report.

“Trust is most pronounced in Mindanao (96%) and least manifest in the rest of Luzon (73%), while essentially the same figures are posted in the different classes. In contrast, 4% of Filipino adults express distrust while 14% are ambivalent on the matter,” it added.

The 82 percent of Filipinos who believe in the poll results are further broken down to 55 percent who said that their trust is ‘big’, and 27 percent who said their trust is ‘very big.’

Of those who do not think the results are credible, four percent said they have ‘small’ trust, while only 0.3 percent said they have ‘very little or no trust’ at all.

Similarly, satisfaction with the election results is also at a high, with 89 percent saying they are satisfied — 44 percent ‘very satisfied’ and 45 percent ‘somewhat satisfied’.

Also, Mindanao has the highest percentage of respondents who are satisfied with 99 percent, followed by Visayas at 93 percent, NCR at 86 percent, and Balance Luzon at 84 percent.

Dissatisfaction was at four percent of the respondents, while seven percent could not say if they were satisfied or not.

The 2022 national elections saw a landslide and majority win for the leaders of the country, as both President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and his running mate Vice President Sara Duterte got 31.62 million and 32.20 million votes, respectively.

The votes for Marcos accounted for 58.77 percent of the total votes for the presidential race,  while Duterte had 61.53 percent of the total votes for the vice presidential race.

Marcos’ main opponent, former vice president Leni Robredo, got 15.03 million votes or 27.94 percent, while her running mate former senator Kiko Pangilinan had 9.329 million votes or 17.82 percent.
