Pediatrician writes health column for Inquirer

The column “In the Pink of Health” by pediatrician Dr. Fatima Ignacio Gimenez M.D. starts today in the Opinion section of the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The column couldn’t be more timely as the world continues to struggle from the COVID-19 pandemic, which has put health issues at the front and center of public governance and even daily discussions.

“In the pink of health translates to overall well-being and since my intention is to focus more on sharing the importance of prevention to achieve this, I feel it speaks for itself,” Gimenez said. “I was actually thinking about pink chubby cheeks and pink toes that are good enough to eat. As a pediatrician, these are markers that you want to see in each well-baby visit.”

Gimenez, who is a champion of disease prevention and immunization, will be sharing her thoughts about the current health situation and health issues—but in a lighter style that will be accessible to readers by peppering it with stories on the medical profession.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in public health from the University of the Philippines Manila and a doctor of medicine degree from the University of the East Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Medical Center. She is also the current president of the Pediatric Infectious Disease Society of the Philippines and chairs the immunization committee of the Philippine Pediatric Society, among others.

She has previously published articles on influenza, swine flu, and combination vaccines.

Her first article is loosely based on Robert Fulghum’s “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten,” touching on values and basic sanitation.
