5 hurt in Tondo fire

MANILA, Philippines — Five people, including minors, were injured after a pre-dawn fire gutted several houses in Tondo, Manila, an arson investor from the Manila Fire District said.

Senior Fire Officer 2 John Joseph Jalique identified the victims as Mary Grace, Girly Joy and Maria Garma, 3, 4, 4, respectively; Rolvy and Imelda Loyola, 10, and 42.

Reports said the fire which started around 3:40 a.m. reached fourth alarm before it was put out around 6 a.m. It started on the third floor of a three-story apartment owned by Christy Garma along Batangas corner Barrio Roxas Street near Abad Santos Street.

Jalique said more than 10 houses were destroyed in the fire.

Cost of damage is estimated at about P1 million.
