MANILA, Philippines — President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr.’s condition is improving after he contracted COVID-19, Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles said on Sunday.

Echoing Marcos’ physician Dr. Samuel Zacate, Cruz-Angeles said that the president, who remains in isolation, now has only mild symptoms with “no fever, no loss of taste and smell sensation.”

The president has no throat inflammation and “no sign of respiratory distress or pneumonia,” Zacate pointed out after he visited the chief executive on Saturday afternoon.

Marcos’ vital signs are “within normal limit and he will be subjected to further laboratory examination as may be needed,” Cruz-Angeles said, quoting Zacate.

“His personal doctor, Dr. Zacate, reported Saturday that the President is doing well and very much in stable condition,” Cruz-Angeles said in a statement.

“The President was advised to undergo home isolation for seven days in compliance with the Department of Health protocol for fully-vaccinated individuals,” she added.

According to Cruz-Angeles, the president continues to work, giving directives to his Cabinet members while in isolation.

Experiencing symptoms, Marcos tested positive for COVID-19 in an antigen test on Friday, July 8. A reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction test confirmed the president’s infection.

This is the second time Marcos contracted COVID-19. His first was during the height of the pandemic in March 2020.
