MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area (LPA) inside the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) will bring overcast skies with rain over parts of the Visayas and Mindanao on Sunday, the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said.
In its Saturday bulletin, Pagasa said the LPA is currently located 465 kilometers east of Surigao City.
Pagasa weather specialist Obet Badriña, in a public weather forecast, said the LPA is expected to become a typhoon by Monday or Tuesday.
The LPA is also expected to bring cloudy skies, scattered rain and thunderstorms over the Eastern Visayas, Caraga, and the Davao Region. Pagasa is also warning those in the affected areas to brace for flash floods and landslides triggered by moderate, and at times heavy rains.
Pagasa added that Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon), Mimaropa (Mindoro Occidental, Mindoro Oriental, Marinduque, Romblon, and Palawan), Western Visayas, the Zamboanga Peninsula and the Bangsamoro Region will also experience cloudy skies with scattered rain and thunderstorms brought by the southwest monsoon or habagat.
Metro Manila and the other parts of the country meanwhile will have fair weather with partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain or thunderstorms, said Pagasa.
Meanwhile, Badriña said Pagasa is monitoring another LPA outside the PAR, which is located 885 kilometers west of Luzon, but is not expected to enter the PAR.
No gale warnings were raised by Pagasa over any of the country’s seaboards, said Badriña.
