Ex-CBCP president Archbishop Lagdameo dies at 81

MANILA, Philippines — The former president of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines (CBCP) and Jaro Archbishop-Emeritus Angel Lagdameo died on Friday. He was 81.

The Archdiocese of Jaro confirmed that Lagdameo died at 8:30 am. No other details were given.

“Let us include him in our prayers and masses,” the archdiocese said in a social media post.

The archbishop served as CBCP president from December 2005 to December 2009.

Prior to that, he was the vice president of the CBCP for two terms of four years.

He also served as chairman of the CBCP’s Episcopal Commission on the Laity from 1990 to 2000.

Lagdameo was ordained priest for the Diocese of Lucena on Dec. 19, 1964.
