LUCENA CITY—Three motorcycle riders died in two separate road accidents in Batangas province on Tuesday, July 5, police said Wednesday.
The Batangas police reported that a car driven by Rodel Baril bumped at around 10:30 p.m. a motorcycle driven by Richard Bongcal with back-rider Alvin Dotillos in Barangay Concepcion in Batangas City.
The report said Bongcal and Dotillos suffered grave injuries and died on the spot.
The police said Bongcal was wearing a crash helmet but Dotillos had no head protection as mandated under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.
The police said Baril was overtaking another vehicle and occupied the opposite lane, which resulted in the collision.
Baril remained under police custody, and his vehicle was impounded.
In San Pascual town, a motorcycle driven by Jayvee del Mundo hit around 9 a.m. another motorcycle driven by Rogelio Mendoza along the new diversion road in Barangay Bayanan
Both riders were thrown off their motorcycles, landed on the pavement, and suffered injuries.
Mendoza died on the spot while Del Mundo was taken to St. Pascal De Baylon Hospital.
The police are conducting further investigation while Del Mundo remains under custody.
