MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa denied on Monday wearing a Patek Philippe watch with a market value of P357 million as of December 2021.
A watch enthusiast page on Instagram — @WatchspotterPH — made that claim in a post on Tuesday.
But later the post was edited after Dela Rosa corrected the claim. He said he was actually wearing a Seiko that costs lower than P14,000.
The senator corrected the claim in a Facebook post, saying he was wearing a Seiko watch that costs way lower at P14,000.
In Filipino, Dela Rosa wrote: “To all the crazy gossips out there, I fooled you! You turned my Seikopatik [a play on the word Patek] that cost P14k into a Patek Philippe that costs 360 [million] PHP.”
Dela Rosa misstated the amount.
“Seiko copied that watched from a Patek Philippe Tiffany Blue that costs 6.5 [million dollars], and you can’t buy one because it’s a limited edition. Someone came home from Japan with that [Seiko] watch and sold it to me for 14k. So now the intriguers took the bait. Swak sila,” Dela Rosa, a former chief of the Philippine National Police, said in his post.
The Instagram page then updated its post, writing in the caption that Dela Rosa was wearing a Seiko watch with a market value of P11,000.
