MANILA, Philippines — The national weekly positivity rate for COVID-19 infection rose to 6.8 percent, said the Department of Health (DOH) on Tuesday, with six regions registering a positivity rate of more than 5 percent.
Based on the DOH’s latest COVID-19 situationer, there is a continuous increase in the number of cases recorded per day from June 28 to July 4.
“Sustained case uptrend is observed in most regions with [the] majority (91%) of provinces, HUCs (highly urbanized cities), and ICCs (independent component cities) showing case increases over the recent weeks,” said the DOH.
Of the said regions, six have already recorded positivity rates past the World Health Organization’s (WHO) threshold of 5 percent. These are Metro Manila with 9.3 percent; Calabarzon with 8.4 percent; Western Visayas with 7.1 percent; Mimaropa with 6.4 percent; CAR with 5.5 percent; and Central Luzon with 5.4 percent.
As of July 4, the country’s total COVID-19 caseload was at 3,709,386, including 10,004 active cases, 3,699,292 recovered patients, and 60,602 deaths.
Nevertheless, the DOH said healthcare utilization rates remained low and case increases have not led to severe and critical COVID-19 admissions to hospitals in all regions.
All regions likewise remain in the “low risk” classification despite increases in cases since average daily attack rates as well as COVID-19 healthcare utilization rates have also been at low risk across all regions, the DOH noted
“National severe and critical admissions remain to be less than 1% of total hospital admissions,” it explained.
