MANILA, Philippines — The Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Monday said it recorded a “relatively high turn-out” of applicants on the first day of the resumption of voter registration.

“Based on initial assessment reports coming from Comelec Field Offices, the first day of the resumption of Voter Registration today, July 4, 2022, was peaceful and orderly, with a relatively high turn-out of applicants across the board in all regions,” said Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco in a statement.

The registration period is set from Mondays to Saturdays, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m until July 23.

Laudiangco’s initial reports indicated that registration nationwide, particularly in Metro Manila, Cordillera Administrative Region, Regions 2, 3, 4A, 5, 6, 12, and BARMM showed orderly queues in city and election offices.

The Comelec spokesperson also noted that most applicants belonged to the new members of the Katipunan ng Kabataan-Sangguniang Kabataan, aged 15 to 17 years old.

The registration comes amid the coming barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections slated for December 5, 2022.

The Comelec urged the public to register as early as possible and avoid waiting until the last minute.
