MANILA, Philippines — A 29-year-old man who jumped off the Mabini Bridge into the Pasig River in Manila was rescued, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported Monday.

According to the PCG, the man, identified as Jessie Ang, was sitting on the side of the bridge (formerly Nagtahan Bridge) before leaping off despite attempts of responding authorities to talk to him.

The PCG said it immediately rescued the man who fell straight into the Pasig River.

Ang was boarded on PCG’s aluminum boat and was brought to the Coast Guard’s Sub-Station in Hospicio de San Jose where he was given first aid treatment, clothes, food, and drinks while undergoing profiling.

He was then turned over to Barangay 830, Zone 90, District 6’s Sangguniang Kabataan chairman Reskie Aguilar who initially reported seeing Ang sitting on the side of the bridge. — Iliana Padigos, INQUIRER.net intern
