TAGBILARAN CITY – This city on Friday welcomed its first female mayor since 1742.

Mayor Jane Censoria Cajes-Yap succeeded her husband John Geesnell Yap who completed his nine-year term as city mayor.

“Just like the great mayors who came before me, I too have the obligation and responsibility to significantly contribute and steer Tagbilaran City to greater heights,” she said after Bohol Gov. Erico Aristotle Aumentado administered her oath.

Yap said she was fortunate that she will be building on the success and legacy of her husband who changed the historic transformation of Tagbilaran for the past nine years.

“Before being elected as your mayor, I am a wife first and a mother to Janah and Jaby. But today, I am now a mother to over 105,000 Tagbilaranons. I am responsible for your well being and welfare. A mother not only to a few but to all,” she said.

She also presented some of the priority programs and projects for the next three years including health, education, livelihood and social services.

Yap said she will initiate projects to make Tagbilaran a green city. She will also issue an executive order encouraging government agencies, non-government organizations, and the private sector to conduct massive tree growing activities.

“As a woman and a mother, I know public service is quite daunting. But I know deep in my heart that there is no happiness more satisfying and fulfilling than building a home.”

“Tagbilaran is our home, and each one of you is a part of our growing and thriving family. With God’s grace, together we are going to make Tagbilaran City, the best home of our lives, a home full of love, a love shared by everyone,” she said.
