Traffic in Metro Manila not ‘generally affected’—MMDA

MANILA, Philippines—Amid the nationwide transport caravan protest Thursday, traffic situation in Metro Manila “wasn’t generally affected” as only less than 30 vehicles joined the protest, Dang Roselada of the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority said.

Roselada said MMDA monitored only 29 vehicles—15 jeepneys, eight FX taxi’s and six motorcycles—as it approaches Ayala Avenue, Makati from Elliptical Road in Quezon City.

The caravan, led by transport group Pagkakaisa ng mga Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators Nationwide, or Piston, left Quezon City around 10 a.m., and would stop in front of Chevron’s head office Ayala Avenue to protest against the continuing increase of fuel prices.

Six hundred MMDA traffic enforces were earlier deployed to different areas in Manila, along with roughly 5,000 police officers from the National Capital Region Police office and National Headquarters in Camp Crame, to maintain order and security in areas that will be affected by the caravan protest.
