MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) recorded 612 new infections of COVID-19 on Sunday, bringing active cases to 4,529.
With this, the nationwide COVID-19 caseload is 3,696,264, with 3,631,268 recoveries and 60,467 deaths, based on the DOH COVID-19 Tracker on its website.
Metro Manila still has the most number of newly-recorded cases in the last 14 days with 2,194, followed by Calabarzon with 659 and Western Visayas Visayas with 375.
In Metro Manila, Quezon City has the most reported cases with 503, followed by Manila with 281 and Makati with 270.
Last week, Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire raised the possibility of escalating the COVID-19 alert system to Level 2 due to an uptick in COVID-19 cases in Metro Manila.
However, the Department of Health (DOH) earlier said that it has yet to see any indication of another surge, though acknowledging that rise in cases.
The DOH had also previously announced that it had detected local transmission of both the BA.2.12.1. and the BA.5. — both of which health experts feared to be highly transmissible and could even evade vaccine protection.
