63-year-old man dies after vehicle falls off Samal port

MANILA, Philippines — A 63-year old man died after being trapped inside his vehicle that fell off a port in Samal City in Davao del Norte on Saturday, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) reported.

The PCG said Rogelio Tacder was trapped inside his vehicle that fell off the Mae Wess Port in Barangay Kinawitnon, Babak District.

“Tacder parked his vehicle while waiting for an incoming barge crossing Samal to Davao,” the PCG said in an incident report. “However, he accidentally accelerated towards the sea at Mae Wess Port.”

Personnel from the PCG and the Samal City Disaster Risk Reduction Office retrieved Tacder’s body inside his vehicle at around 6:15 a.m. on Saturday.

Tacder’s body was brought to the CDRRMO for proper disposition, the PCG said.
