MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga—A former New People’s Army rebel surrendered Wednesday to the police and military in Aurora province.

The Central Luzon police identified the former rebel as “Ka Jojo,” 50, of the capital town of Baler.

Regional police director Brigadier General Matthew Baccay said Ka Jojo was a former political guide of the Bagong Hukbong Bayan’s SYP 2 platoon under the group’s provincial committee.

Colonel Julio Lizardo, Aurora police director, said Ka Jojo turned over a .38-caliber revolver with two live bullets to authorities.

He will receive financial and medical aid and educational support for his children from the government’s program for rebel returnees.

Baccay said the regional police would continue to help convince insurgents to surrender.
