BAGUIO CITY~~The mayor and vice mayor of Pilar town in Abra province, on Tuesday surrendered their high-powered firearms to policemen following a revocation and confiscation order issued by acting Philippine National Police chief Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr..

The security aides of Mayor Mark Roland Somera and Vice Mayor Josefina “Jaja” Disono were involved in a standoff with local police, which resulted in the death of one of the officials’ security officers weeks before the May 9 elections.

A legal counsel for the two officials turned over the firearms to the Abra Provincial Police Office and the Regional Civil Security Unit-Cordillera.

Six pistols, two shotguns, and a revolver from Somera and Disono were placed in police custody.

On March 29, Disono’s security personnel reportedly evaded a checkpoint and sought refuge in the vice mayor’s compound after a pursuit. Disono is the sister of Somera.
