WOMAN SURVIVES BOLO ATTACK

A 52-YEAR-OLD old woman was hacked several times by her brother-in-law in barangay Punta Engaño, Lapu-Lapu City.

Susana Saludaga, a clean and green job-order employee of the city, survived the attack despite sustaining hack hounds in her body.

The attacker, Exederio Lucero, 70, surrendered to the authorities after the incident.

Police said Lucero was confronted yesterday morning by the victim’s daughter for cutting a clothesline and banana tree owned by the Saludagas.

During the confrontation, Lucero took a bolo and tried to attack the victim’s daughter.

The woman ran to their house where Lucero saw Saludaga cleaning their backyard.

The suspect turned his anger on Saludaga and hacked her repeatedly.

The suspect fled after the attack, while the victim was rushed by neighbors to the Mactan Doctors’ Hospital.

The suspect later surrendered to Dianito Dumaguing, chief tanod of the barangay, and was turned over to the police.

Police said Lucero was an ex-convict. He was jailed at the national penitentiary in 1972 for a murder case before he was given a presidential pardon.

Lucero was not in good terms with his in-laws due to land dispute, said police./CORRESPONDENT NORMAN V. MENDOZA
