Rama reiterates call to sack all Carbon police

Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama reiterated his desire to have all the policemen assigned at the Carbon police station replaced.

Rama warned Senior Supt. Melvin Buenafe, Cebu City police chief, of repercussions if his instructions are not complied with.

Rama is giving the city police until the end of the week to comply with the order.

Rama said although Buenafe was on leave to attend to a family affair, he wanted his officer in charge to implement his orders

“Ang akong instructions bag-o tanan police diha so we can start something new. I am having my instructions and it should be done immediately. What if I inspect today or tomorrow and I see that they have not been replaced? Padulong na sa chief of police,” said Rama.

The mayor did not elaborate on what will be his next action will be should the order is not followed.

But the mayor said cutting the P2,000 monthly allowances that the city police are getting from the city government is not an option.

Cutting off the policemen’s allowances will affect their families, he said.

“Naa nay domino effect. Unsa may sala sa mga anak nga ato mang apilon?” he said.

Rama sought the replacement of all Carbon policemen following a shooting incident in front of the police station last week.

Rama initially said he wanted police station head Chief Insp. Pablo Cabildo to stay since he just took over as station chief two weeks before the shooting.

Cabildo replaced Chief Insp. Renero Agustin whom Rama ordered replaced following the killing of a civilian police volunteer in the Carbon market area last month.

Rama later changed his mind to let Cabildo stay when he found out that the police officer was formerly assigned at the Carbon market police station.

Rama said he wanted a police chief who has not been assigned in the area.

Senior Supt. Eunil Avergonzado assumed as Carbon police chief on Monday to replace Cabildo.
