MANILA, Philippines — The mother of the sports utility vehicle driver who ran over a security guard in Mandaluyong City is fearing for her son’s future, as the now-viral incident may have a negative impact on his life.

In a briefing in Camp Crame after the Toyota RAV4 owner Jose Antonio Sanvicente surrendered on Wednesday, his mother was asked about how the family felt after the incident was caught on a dashboard camera and went viral on social media.

In response, Sanvicente’s mother said they lost sleep and appetite over the issue, claiming that it was blown out of proportion as it was only a mere road accident.

“Syempre, hindi ho kami makatulog, hindi kami makakain, syempre anak namin ‘yong involved, saka nag-viral na eh ‘di ba.  Masisira na ‘yong buhay ng anak ko, for any parent ba gano’n ang gusto niyo sa anak niyo?” she asked.

“Mabait ‘yong anak ko, ano, nagta-trabaho siya, he’s a very responsible man.  And I think ito, aksidente naman talaga ‘to, lumaki lang nang lumaki.  And I feel so sad kasi ano na mangyayari sa future ng anak ko ‘di ba?” she added.

According to Sanvicente’s mother, her son is a good person who apparently rattled when he “accidentally” bumped the security guard.

“Maayos ang anak ko, sino bang may gusto na takbuhan ‘yon, syempre na-rattle na rin siya eh,” she said.

Sanvicente was accompanied by his lawyers and parents after surrendering in Camp Crame, heeding calls from the public and from Philippine National Police (PNP) officer-in-charge Lt. Gen. Vicente Danao Jr.

Last Monday, Danao called out Sanvicente, asking whether he was a drug user as his actions did not reflect that of a normal person.

Sanvicente’s mother said this was a factor on why they decided to come out.

“Kasi naglabas na si General Danao ng what’s that, ‘yong sa news?  Natakot na talaga ako.  Then I said gawin na natin, we have to go to General Danao already, at d’yan na kami mag-surrender, magpakita,” she explained.

Sanvicente is facing charges of frustrated murder and abandoning the victim from the Mandaluyong police after the incident on July 5.  As of now, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) has revoked his driver’s license, making him perpetually disqualified from driving in the country.
