Motorcyclist, tricycle driver dead in road mishaps in Cavite, Rizal

LUCENA CITY – A female motorcyclist and a tricycle driver died in separate road accidents in Cavite and Rizal provinces on Saturday and Sunday (June 11 and 12), police said.

The Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) police, in a report, said Karen Ivy Marques was traveling aboard her motorcycle around 2 a.m. Sunday when her vehicle accidentally ran into a fallen concrete post along Molino-Paliparan road in Barangay (village) Salawag in Dasmariñas City, Cavite. The rider sustained grave injuries and died on the spot.

Police did not say whether the victim was wearing a crash helmet for protection as mandated under the Motorcycle Helmet Act of 2009.

Meanwhile, in Tanza, Rizal, the tricycle being driven by Anthonino Pagulong and a jeepney driven by Arsenio Pulido accidentally collided in Barangay Bagtas around 10:45 p.m. on Saturday.

The wayward tricycle occupied the opposite lane and was consequently hit by an oncoming truck driven by Alvin Zipagan.

Pagulong died on the spot from severe injuries while his unidentified back-rider was rushed to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Pulido and Zipagan remained under police custody while the authorities are conducting further investigations.
