Bacolod villages to lose streetlights tied to power theft
BACOLOD CITY—The Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) began its campaign to remove unmetered streetlights in villages in the city.
Malou Parroco, Ceneco promotions section head, said on Thursday (June 9) removing unmetered streetlights was part of Ceneco’s Bantay Kuryente campaign to cut off illegal electrical connections in violation of Republic Act 7832, or the Anti-Pilferage Act of 1994, and to bring down systems loss.
Ceneco incurred pilferage losses of P325 million in 2021 and has launched an aggressive campaign to arrest and file charges against pilferers, said engineer Leo Arimas, Ceneco technical services division chief.
Ceneco said electricity theft is also dangerous and losses are paid for by consumers.
The public can help put a stop to theft of electricity by calling 0961-621-5718 (Smart), 0956-137-5793 (Globe) or 458-6777 local 1264 of the Ceneco Apprehension Section.
Tipsters will received rewards and their identities will be kept confidential.
