MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) on Thursday recorded 252 new infections of COVID-19, as shown in its COVID-19 tracker, with active cases now at 2,529.

This is the one of the highest numbers the DOH has recorded in weeks, significantly higher than the average number of daily infections recorded from May 30 to June 5 at 185 infections (of a total of 1,295), as well as Wednesday’s 192 infections.

This brought the country’s total COVID-19 caseload to 3,692,336 nationwide, with 3,629,351 recoveries and 60,456 deaths.

Meanwhile, the new cases are significantly higher than the average number of daily infections recorded from May 30 to June 5 at 185 infections (of a total of 1,295), as well as Wednesday’s 192 infections.

This comes after infections have been noted to have been slightly increasing in the past few weeks, which experts attributed to neglected health standards.

Meanwhile, Metro Manila continues to lead with the most number of newly-recorded cases in the last 14 days at 1,246, followed by Calabarzon with 373 and Central Luzon with 201.

In terms of number per city, specifically, Quezon City leads with the most reported cases with 216, followed by Makati with 181 and Manila with 175.

The DOH had also previously announced that it had detected local transmission of both the BA.2.12.1. and the BA.5. — both of which, according to health experts, are feared to be highly transmissible and can even evade vaccine protection.
