MANILA, Philippines — The Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Board (RTWPB) has recommended a P35-increase in the minimum pay of workers in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
This was announced Thursday by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), which also explained that the recommended minimum wage adjustment in Region 9 would need affirmation by the National Wages and Productivity Commission prior to implementation.
In its June 7 order, the RTWPB set the new minimum wage for non-agricultural and retail and service companies in the region that are employing 31 workers and more at P351 while for the same industries employing 10 to 30 workers, P338.
For workers in agricultural sectors and those working in retail and service establishments employing less than 10 workers, the new minimum wage would be P323.
Also, the regional wage board issued an order granting P500 monthly pay increase for domestic workers in the Zamboanga Peninsula.
The latest order of Region 9’s wage board would bring the minimum wage rate in the region to P4,000 for chartered cities and first-class municipalities; and P3,500 for other municipalities.
Around 30,513 workers in private establishments and 19,984 domestic workers are expected to benefit from this salary adjustment order, the DOLE said.
A number of regional wage boards across the country have backed pay increases, with Metro Manila and Western Visayas being the first regions to implement minimum wage hikes this year.
