Regional board OKs ₱31 hike in minimum wage in Central Visayas

Workers in Central Visayas are expected to receive a salary hike in the minimum wage given to cushion the impact of soaring prices of goods due to overseas unrest.

MANILA, Philippines — Workers in Central Visayas are expected to receive a salary hike in the minimum wage given to cushion the impact of soaring prices of goods due to overseas unrest.

According to the Department of Labor and Employment, the Regional Tripartite Wages and Productivity Boards (RTWPB) in the region approved the ₱31 salary increase for both non-agriculture and agri workers, raising the minimum wage from ₱387 to ₱435 and ₱382 to ₱425, respectively.

Meanwhile, the RTWPB also green lighted the ₱500 increase in monthly pay for kasambahay or domestic workers, raising the minimum pay to ₱5,500 for those who work in chartered cities and first-class municipalities, and ₱4,500 for those providing their services in other municipalities in the region.

The order of RTWPB will need to be affirmed by the National Wages and Productivity Commission before its implementation.

The announcement is part of the successive waves of minimum wage increases all over the country.
