4 of 6 Eastern Visayas provinces have zero COVID-19 cases

TACLOBAN CITY—Four of the six provinces in Eastern Visayas have not recorded a single case of COVID-19 for weeks now.

The Department of Health (DOH) said Tuesday that the provinces with no active COVID-19 cases were Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, Samar, and Biliran.

The provinces in the region which still have COVID-19 cases are Leyte, with four cases, and Southern Leyte, with nine cases.

Of the region’s seven cities, Tacloban remains to have cases of COVID-19 with two.

The city’s two remaining COVID-19 cases are considered “mild.”

Despite the declining COVID-19 cases in the region, DOH regional information officer Jelyn Lopez-Malibago still asked the public to continue to observe all the health protocols and avail themselves of the government’s ongoing vaccination campaign.

She said having a vaccine is still considered the “best defense” against the dreaded disease, which has claimed 668 lives since the pandemic started over two years ago.
