Blasts in Basilan city hurt two people, damaged some properties
ZAMBOANGA CITY, Zamboanga del Sur — Two explosions rocked Isabela City in Basilan province on Monday, although the first explosion was dismissed to have been caused by faulty electrical wiring.
Brig. Gen. Domingo Gobway, commander of Joint Task Force Basilan, said the first explosion inside a fast food restaurant along Plaza Rizal, Isabela City, around 5:40 p.m. was caused by faulty electrical wiring.
Based on the report made by Richard Falcatan, DXNO Manager, the explosion occurred at the rear portion of the fast food chain.
“No one was reported to be injured although the establishment sustained minor damage (in its facilities), such as the CCTV,” Falcatan said in a radio program.
Another explosion happened around 6:15 pm., at the Biel Compound at Valderosa Street, Barangay La Piedad of the city, just about 800 meters away from the fast food outlet, where the first explosion occurred.
Article continues after this advertisementGobway said they were still looking into the cause of the blast, which badly damaged a truck parked nearby and injured two people.
Article continues after this advertisementUso Dan, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Officer (CDRRMO) of Isabela City asked residents to stay at home. “We don’t know yet what type of explosion this is but we are asking city residents not to panic while we make sure everything is in control,” he said.
