LUCENA CITY — Two family outings turned tragic after two young boys drowned in separate incidents in Lian and Lemery towns in Batangas province on Sunday, May 29.

The Batangas police reported Monday that one of the fatalities was a 14-year-old boy from Quezon City.

Investigators said the boy and his relatives had gone swimming at El Paye Beach Resort in Barangay Lumaniag in Lian town.

While swimming around 8:20 a.m., the victim and two cousins noticed that they were already in a deep portion of the sea.

The two cousins managed to swim back to the shallow portion of the water, but the victim did not make it.

Police said the teenage boy was rescued and rushed to Apacible Memorial District Hospital in Nasugbo town but expired along the way.

In Lemery town, a 6-year-old boy from Alitagtag town, also in Batangas, drowned at the swimming pool of Orlando’s Beach Resort in Barangay Nonong Casto around 9 a.m.

Police said the victim went to the pool together with other relatives for a swim.

Unknown to his companions, the boy climbed to the top of the slide but accidentally slipped and fell into the adult swimming pool and sank.

The victim was pulled out of the water, given emergency treatment, and brought to Batangas Provincial Hospital where he died.
