LAOAG CITY, Ilocos Norte — The number of COVID-19 cases logged in the Ilocos region slightly increased from May 22-28 as compared with the previous week, the regional Department of Health (DOH) said Monday.

According to the latest COVID-19 bulletin from the DOH, the region posted an 84.2-percent increase in the number of cases recorded from May 15-21.

This meant that at least 35 new COVID-19 cases were added to the COVID-19 tally in the region. Last week, the region logged 19 new COVID-19 cases.

The daily average number of COVID-19 cases rose to five last week, compared with three cases in the prior period, the DOH said.

At least two, or 5.7 percent of the total new cases, were tagged as severe and critical cases by the health department.

This now brought to four the number of severe and critical cases admitted to health facilities in the region, the DOH said.

Data also showed that at least 50, or 22 percent of the 225 ICU (intensive care unit) beds dedicated to COVID-19 patients are in use. At least 174, or 12 percent of the 1,427 non-ICU beds, are occupied.

The regional DOH also verified at least 60 new deaths due to the virus.

Data from the DOH also showed that 84 percent of the target of more than 4.3 million individuals in the region had already been fully vaccinated against COVID-19, with 793,23 receiving their booster shots already.
