Nonagenarians, centenarians get P25,000 from Ligao City gov’t

LIGAO CITY — A check amounting to P25,000 was handed by the city government on Monday to residents who reached the ages of 90, 95, and 100.
In an interview, Mayor Patricia Gonzalez-Alsua said handing out cash incentives to senior citizens in this city was realized this year through Ordinance No. 2021-024, or the “Nonagenarians and Centenarians Cash Incentive Ordinance.”
“So far, 21 senior citizens (four centenarians and 17 nonagenarians) have already received the money, and they were very happy. They said it is a big help in buying their needs (medicines and other necessities) in their day-to-day living,” Alsua said.
She said giving away P25,000 is valid and applicable only to qualified elderly residents every five years.
Aside from the cash incentives given by the city social welfare and development office, they will also be receiving P50,000 from the provincial government and P100,000 from the national government through the Department of Social and Welfare Development.
