Duterte almost done packing his things in Malacañang, says ES Medialdea

MANILA, Philippines — President Rodrigo Duterte is almost finished packing his things in the Malacañan Palace as he is set to step down from office on June 30, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea revealed Monday.

Medialdea said the outgoing Chief Executive has started packing up his things and sending them back to his hometown Davao City few months ago.

“Patapos na nga siya. Two, three months ago, nagpapadala na siya ng gamit niya,” he told reporters in a chance interview in Pasay City.

“Mga personal things inuna na niya. Karamihan, Davao lahat siyempre doon ‘yun pupunta,” he also said.

(He packed the personal things first. All of those would go to Davao.)

In February, still four months before the end of his term, Duterte admitted he has started packing his belongings in Malacañang. He likewise shared about his plans to buy a small condo within Metro Manila because he has no place to stay in the capital region except in Malacañang.

Medialdea also said he and the transition team he leads have already met with the camp of President-elect Ferdinand Marcos Jr. for the transition of power.

He said they have already discussed the venue of the inauguration.

Duterte and his Cabinet are also set to hold a meeting later Monday, which could be their last Cabinet meeting.

“I think it will be the last,” Medialdea said.
