MANILA, Philippines — The total number of violators arrested by the Philippine National Police (PNP) during the statewide election gun ban rose to 3,461 on Sunday.
The nationwide gun ban is in effect per the Commission on Election (Comelec) Resolution 10728; it began Jan. 9 and is set to last until June 8, 2022, effectively covering the entire campaign and national and local elections period.
According to the PNP’s latest data, the total arrests consisted of 3,326 civilians, 26 police officers, 22 military personnel, 61 security officers and 26 remained uncategorized.
Meanwhile, a total of 2,683 firearms were confiscated during the arrests, along with 11,892 ammunition and 1,240 deadly weapons.
Metro Manila continues to lead with the most number of recorded incidents at 1,174, followed by Central Visayas with 387, Calabarzon with 360, Central Luzon with 238, and Western Visayas with 202 total incidents.
Meanwhile, in terms of arrests, Metro Manila again continues to lead with the most at 1,245, followed by Calabarzon with 373, Central Visayas with 360, Central Luzon with 313, and Western Visayas with 200.
During the gun ban period, all permits to carry firearms outside of residence have been suspended, with the exception of members of the Philippine National Police, the Armed Forces of the Philippines, and other law enforcement agencies, who must still be fully uniformed when carrying their weapons.
Violators face jail time of one year up to six years, disqualification to hold public office, and deprivation of the right to vote.
