MANILA, Philippines — Another alleged member of the Dawlah Islamiyah-Torayfe was killed as “preventive military operations” continued against the Islamic State-inspired group in Maguindanao.
The Joint Task Force Central and 6th Infantry (Kampilan) Division in a statement on Thursday identified the second fatality as a certain Abdul Patir. The first casualty was previously identified as Sadam Salandang.
It also said that 17 members of Dawlah Islamiyah-Torayfe were injured since the military’s field artillery team launched air and ground assaults against the group at Sitio Patawali, Barangay Ganta on Monday, May 23. This prompted the evacuation of some 600 residents in the area.
The group led by Abu Torayfe was being blamed for the series of bombings in Maguindanao, Cotabato, and South Cotabato, targeting government forces and civilians.
