Blast hits passenger bus in Koronadal City, 2 hurt

A homemade bomb exploded Thursday inside a passenger bus in Koronadal City, South Cotabato, wounding two people in the latest possible terror attacks in the region. The blast occurred as the military confirmed Abu Turaife, one of the leaders of militant group linked to Islamic State, was wounded along with 16 other fighters during this week’s air assault in Maguindanao.

KORONADAL CITY––An explosion ripped at 12:20 p.m. Thursday a passenger bus cruising at a major street in this city, wounding at least two persons, an official said.

The explosion tore the back portion of a Yellow Bus Line unit coming from Tacurong City in Sultan Kudarat en route to this city, the capital of South Cotabato.

Citing initial investigation, Capt. Renjun Bagaman, spokesperson of the South Cotabato Police Office, said two tricycle drivers trailing the passenger bus were injured in the explosion.

“The improvised explosive device exploded inside the bus while traversing in front of a mall here,” he said.

Fortunately, the bus was not packed with passengers during the explosion, Bagaman said.

The bus was traversing General Santos Drive here when the improvised bomb exploded.

Investigations were still ongoing to determine the motive of the attack.
