MANILA, Philippines — Starting Monday, the LRT-2 line will be adding eight more car trains as more schools are expected to resume in-person classes, the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) announced Wednesday.

“This is in preparation for the projected and incoming opening of classes — the face-to-face opening of classes, we have commissioned additional eight operational car trains,” LRTA Administrator Jeremy Regino said.

The Department of Education in March approved the resumption of limited in-person classes for 9,994 public and 212 private schools under Alert Levels 1 and 2.

The additional car trains, according to Regino, may also help promote minimum public health standards in the LRT-2, should the uptick in COVID-19 cases be sustained in the coming days.

“In the event of a [COVID-19] surge, the eight additional operating car trains will be of great help in contributing to social distancing in our passenger trains,” he said.
