MANILA, Philippines — About 30 cases contesting the results of the May 9 election for various local positions are now pending at the Commission on Elections (Comelec) two weeks after the elections ended, a poll body official said on Tuesday.
As of May 23, the Comelec’s Electoral Contests Adjudicating Department has received 30 cases of election protests, according to the poll body’s acting spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco.
He said the cases were either being docketed or reviewed by the department and would proceed in accordance with rules and procedures. Asked on the elective positions involved in the cases, Laudiangco could only say that “it is a mix” and explained that the Comelec’s jurisdiction only covers city, provincial and regional posts.

“They have received 30 election protest cases, and all of these are being docketed and are being reviewed. And of course, it will proceed in accordance [with] rules and procedures,” Laudiangco told reporters at a press conference.
Meanwhile, Laudiangco said that Commissioner Aimee Ferolino had issued directives to service provider F2 Logistics to “answer and account” for election paraphernalia dumped in a vacant lot in Cavite province as shown in photos and videos on social media over the weekend.
No deadline has been set for F2’s response on the matter as Comelec wants to be “exhaustive” and “comprehensive” in its investigation, he said.
