MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Education (DepEd) on Saturday said they are investigating the suspected food poisoning incident of at least 50 students in Sta. Catalina, Negros Oriental after reportedly consuming contaminated milk from the agency.
In a statement, DepEd said they have coordinated with the local government unit of Sta. Catalina Municipality, the National Dairy Authority, and concerned agencies “for the analysis of milk samples and the investigation of the incident.”
Initial investigation of the agency revealed that “majority of the affected learners experienced mild illnesses, including dehydration and nausea.”
The students were treated in nearby district hospitals and were discharged later on, according to DepEd.
“Nonetheless, DepEd has facilitated the provision of immediate medical assistance to affected individuals and will continue to monitor their health status,” the agency added.
DepEd also said that they will look into possible actions against those who were proved to be responsible for the incident.
