MANILA, Philippines — Broadcaster and senator-elect Raffy Tulfo urged President Rodrigo Duterte to honor the passing of veteran actress Susan Roces by declaring her burial day as a “national day of mourning.”
Tulfo also recommended that Roces be recognized as a national artist posthumously.
“We ask President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to declare a national day of mourning on the day of her burial. Rep. Jocelyn Tulfo (Raffy Tulfo’s wife) will file a House Resolution next week extolling Ms. Susan Roces’ legacy and recommending her nomination for posthumous National Artist honors,” he said in a statement on Saturday.
Tulfo, on behalf of his family, also extended his condolences to Senator Grace Poe and those who “loved and adored” the late actress.
“Few celebrity icons are as loved as Ms. Susan Roces. Hindi mawawaglit sa alaala naming mga taga-hanga niya ang kanyang ‘di mabilang na mga pelikula, programang pang-telebisyon, at patalastas,” he added.
Roces, remembered by many as the ‘Queen of Philippine Movies,’ died on Friday evening. She was 80.
The veteran actress last appeared as Lola Flora, the grandmother of Cardo Dalisay, in the television adaptation of Fernando Poe Jr.’s Ang Probinsyano.
