MANILA, Philippines — The deadline for the filing of the statement of contributions and expenditure (SOCE) is on June 8, acting Commission on Elections (Comelec) spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco reminded candidates Thursday.
A SOCE, in connection with the elections, is required for every candidate and political party.
“Sa atin pong mga kandidato at political parties, ang deadline po ng filing ng statement of contributions and expenditure ay sa June 8, and this is exactly 30 days after elections,” Laudiangco said in a press briefing.
(To our candidates and political parties, the deadline of the filing of statement of contributions and expenditure is on June 8, and this is exactly 30 days after elections.)
Laudiangco reminded candidates that penalties await those who will not file their SOCE, those who will state false records, and those who will exceed the required expenses. Violators may face perjury, perpetual disqualification, or imprisonment, respectively.
Laudiangco was also asked if the deadline will be extended. He replied: “As to extension, wala pa pong desisyon ang Comelec. Kung pagbabasehan po natin ang mga nakaraang eleksyon, wala po tayong ginawang extension. Why? The 30 days deadline po ay ikinasa ng batas. Ito po ay sinegundahan lamang ng rules,” he said.
(As to extension, the Comelec has no decision yet. Based on the past elections, we did not extend it. Why? The 30 days deadline is set by the law. We just seconded it with the rules.)
Around 500 candidates are facing perpetual disqualification over their non-filing of SOCE, the Comelec earlier said.
