MANILA, Philippines — “Learn to respect the will of the people.”

This was what the camp of presumptive president Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has to say to petitioners asking the Supreme Court to reverse the decision of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) dismissing the plea to cancel the certificate of candidacy (COC) of the late dictator’s son.

In the petition, civic leaders have asked the Supreme Court to stop the Senate and House of Representatives from canvassing the votes cast for Marcos.

Marcos’ camp has yet to receive a copy of the petition, but his spokesman Atty. Vic Rodriguez appealed to the petitioners to stop “pushing for your agenda of animosity.”

“I think these cases have been resolved unanimously by the Comelec on the division level as well as the Comelec en banc and these cases have been dismissed and the decision was unanimous,” he said in a press briefing.

“I appeal to those who keep on pursuing this divisiveness, the people have spoken, and an overwhelming majority has voted for Bongbong Marcos and Inday Sara Duterte into office,” he said.

“I appeal to you, instead of pushing for your agenda of animosity, eh tulungan niyo na lang muna kami na pagtuuan at gamitin natin ang ating limitadong oras araw araw, allow us to be more productive and learn to respect the will of the Filipino people,” he continued.

The Comelec’s Second Division has denied a petition seeking to cancel Marcos’ COC, saying his failure to file his income tax returns does not constitute a crime of moral turpitude.

The Comelec en banc has affirmed the dismissal of four disqualification cases against Marcos.
