BACOLOD CITY — Mayor Pedro Zayco of Kabankalan City, Negros Occidental conceded the mayoral race to Benjie Martabu Miranda on Sunday, May 15.
In a statement, Zayco called on Kabankalanons to support the city’s new officials.
“Let us support the new administration for the progress of Kabankalan City,” he said.
Zayco of the Nationalist People’s Coalition (NPC) was defeated by Miranda of the Pederalismo ng Dugong Dakilang Samahan) in the May 9 polls.
Miranda, a former barangay captain, garnered 36,889 votes while Zayco got 36,611 votes.
Zayco thanked the people of Kabankalan for giving him the opportunity to serve them and for their support for his administration.
Miguel Montinola Zayco of Aksyon Demokratiko also defeated incumbent Vice Mayor Raul Rivera of NPC.
